Sheds, garages and patio doors are consistently among the easiest entry points for opportunist burglars — not because people don't care about security, but because the standard fittings that come with them are often flimsy. Here are five practical upgrades that make a real difference.
1. Replace hasps with a proper security bar
The padlock hasp that comes standard on most sheds and outbuildings can be levered off in seconds with a crowbar. A heavy-duty steel shed security bar spreads the load across a much wider area of the door and frame, making that kind of forced entry far harder.
2. Reinforce patio and French doors
Patio and French doors are a favourite target because their lock mechanisms are often weaker than a front door's, and the doors themselves can sometimes be lifted off their tracks. A determined burglar with time and privacy can eventually get through most things, so the goal is to remove the easy option and make yours a slower, noisier, more visible target than the house next door.
