Handrail Buying Checklist
Handrail Buying Checklist
Run through these points before you order and you'll get the right handrail first time. All Warrior Weld handrails are made to order in West Yorkshire.
1. Measure your steps
- Measure A-B, the nose to nose distance of your steps.
- Add at least 80mm to give the size between the posts.
- Match that size to the nearest handrail size in our measuring guide.
2. Decide how it will be fixed
- Adjustable pivot base: fixes to the ground alongside your steps and angles to follow the slope.
- Concrete in: posts are set permanently into concrete or solid ground.
- Wall mounted: fixes to a wall alongside your steps.
3. Pick your style
- Hammered edge: traditional and chunky.
- Flat bar top: clean and modern.
- Tube top: smooth round top rail.
- Convex style: curved profile, popular for front door steps.
- Wall mounted wrought iron: hammered finish with a scroll end.
4. Check the finish
Check the finish listed on the product you are ordering, and plan to touch up the paintwork over time if the rail is in an exposed spot.
5. Check the rules for your property
- Read our UK handrail regulations guide.
- If your property is listed or in a conservation area, check with your local authority before making changes.
- If you are unsure what applies to your steps, ask your local building control team. This checklist is general information, not legal advice.
